I was able to have a beautiful smile for my senior pictures. I grew up very poor and in a very poverty stricken area. All throughout my elementary and my junior high school years I always felt like an outcast because all of my friends lived in nice houses and they had a lot of money, while myself and my brother lived in a small apartment with my mom. Even though I felt like an outcast in school, I always felt like I fit in perfectly well at my home because my mother and my brother gave me plenty of love and attention.
There was one thing that I always did not like about myself, and that was my smile. I asked my mom if she could get me braces just one time, because I knew that she did not have that much money, but she told me that probably when I got older that she would be able to get me braces, because our insurance was not going to cover it, and she would not be able to pay for it. All throughout high school I really wanted to get braces, but I knew that I was never going to ask my mother to get braces for me again, because I knew that we just could not afford it.
When I turned 16 years old I got my own job, and secretly I started to save money for my braces. I would give my mother $50.00 every time I got my check, so that she could go out and get groceries for us and I would save the rest of my money for my braces. By time I got into my senior year of high school, I had a lot of money saved up and I wanted to get braces. The problem was that I knew I was going to be taking senior pictures at the end of the year, and I did not want to have bulky braces. I told my mother that I had been saving the money, and she was very proud of me. I asked her to take me to the orthodontist to see if I could get braces.
My orthodontist was great and he told me that he had a good friend that was an invisalign dentist. He told me that invisalign braces would be the best braces for me, because with Invisalign I could have braces on and no one would ever be able to tell, so my senior pictures would turn out great. He told me about the price, and I knew that I could not afford them, but my mother told me that she would pay for the rest of the braces, as long as I could pay the down payment. I was so happy when I found out that I was going to be able to get clear braces. I still had my braces on by the end of the school year, but since they were clear I was able to take beautiful senior pictures, and I was so happy to have straight teeth.
